The Hollywood Sign
First projection. Ever.
Cool article about this project, in the LA Times.
For the first time ever, images were projected on The Hollywood Sign, for the 2022 BET Awards.
PaintScaping lit up the iconic landmark, on Tuesday, June 20, 2022, for only the third time in history, and the very first time images have been projected.
And then, a few days later, the Los Angeles-based company projected 3D images from BET Network, beginning at 9 p.m., Pacific, on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th, in conjunction with the BET Awards 2022.
The Tuesday projection was a test run. It had caused a stir on social media as onlookers saw a variety of colorful designs flash across the Hollywood sign. One TikTok alone has had over 500k views and over 115k likes so far.
"How insanely special to see it lit up for the first time in more than 20 years!" tweeted one fan who said she was enjoying Halsey's Hollywood Bowl concert when the sign lit up. Another tweet said: "This has been an entertaining half-an-hour watching the Hollywood Sign being lit up."
"I have been dreaming of mapping the sign for the last 20 years with my friend, Jeff Kleiser, who owns the house. We are proud and honored to be a part of this celebration," said Philippe Bergeron, founder and CEO of PaintScaping. “We have six Barco UDX 40k lumens for this projection. Lots of firepower!” continues Bergeron.
